Soft Smokey
This is a sexy, smokey eye I taught during my first class at the Skin and Makeup Institute on Feb. 12th. A true smokey eye is dark and one color starting at the lash line and fading as it moves up to the crease, but this is for those that are a little wary of the super dark smokey and don’t want to go overboard. I also used only eye shadow for this look, besides mascara, and only used two brushes…a small shader brush and an angled liner brush.
I started with a MUFE’s 35 (matte off white) and blended it right under my brows as a highlight, then, using the same shade, I patted the color into the inner corner of my eye a third of the way across my eyelid using the shader brush. Patting instead of sweeping the color on deposits more color and since this color is very light, you must pat. Then I used MUFE’s 04 (matte black) and, starting at the lash line, patted the color across the rest of my eyelid, up to the crease. Then I used MUFE’s 17 (dark brown) in the crease and used it to blend 04 with a back and forth sweeping motion in the crease. I used the same shader brush for both of these steps **Make sure if you pick up more color, you start at the lash line and work your way up with it. After you pick up more color, where you place the brush first deposits more color and you want your eye to be darkest at the lash line**
After rubbing the same shader brush off with a paper towel, I picked up more of 35 and blended it right below the arch in my brows down to the crease to really blend everything together. The key to a good smokey eye is lots and lots of blending.
Then I used my angled liner brush and, after getting it damp, rubbed it in 35 and traced my waterline. This is to open your eye and make it look bigger. After wiping it off and getting it damp again, I picked up 04 and traced my upper lash line. Then after wiping the brush off to get it mostly dry, I picked up 04 again and traced under my lower lash line. Then I grabbed a Q-tip and smudged out that bottom line. Then I just added mascara and was finished.
